Dinner rolls - recipe

This post will just be the recipe for my family's favorite rolls, with undetailed instructions. Below is a long, step-by-step post with lots of pictures ~ for anyone who has never tried to make rolls from scratch!

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/4 c warm water
  • 1 c milk, scalded
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/4 c butter (or shortening)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 c sifted flour
  • 1 egg

Soften yeast in warm water (110 degrees F). Combine milk, sugar, butter, and salt; cool to lukewarm. Add 1 1/2 c flour; beat well. Beat in yeast and egg. Gradually add remaining flour to form soft dough, beating well. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the surface. Cover and let rise until double (1 1/2 to 2 hours). Turn out on a lightly floured surface and shape as desired. Cover and let shaped rolls rise until double (30-45 min). Bake on greased baking sheet or in greased muffin tins at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Yield: 2-3 dozen.

So I finally made these rolls tonight to go with our Safeway Turkey Breast they were having on sale and the rolls were delicious. Super easy too. I didn't have any butter so I used shortening but I think it would have tasted even better with butter. Thanks for you yummy recipes. I have to make your Soy Chicken once a week, and it is up tomorrow!
